Hi,

Just about to complete TEFL cert & Young Learners cert.Have the opportunity to teach children & adult classes at a socio- cultural centre, starting at the end of September.
I will be paid by them and must create my own syllabus as I am the only language teacher.
I live in France, Does anyone have any idea of what the approximate hrly rate should be for me to be paid.

Thanks

A lot will probably depend on the country, the region of the country, the competition etc. Have you checked out other academies/schools in the area to see how much they pay? They should specify an hourly rate (or an approximate one) in any job advert.

In Madrid, TEFL teachers at an academy get anything between about €14 and €22 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications and various other factors. The size of the academy/company paying you will also make a difference. A "socio-cultural centre" sounds like a sort of council-run thing - am I right? If so, you may not get the same rate that you would get with a private academy, or if you taught privately.

I am living in the south of France and teaching privately, I teach one to one and groups. My students pay 20 Euros an hour for one to one, and 10 Euros each in groups. In the Paris area you can charge much more, I have heard of teachers charging 40 to 50 an hour for one to one teaching.
