What is the meaning of- I got a front row seat to the history.

What is the meaning of- I got a front row seat to the history.
What's the context? "The history" is obviously a reference to something, and we don't know what it is.

I saw in a movie- A girl is telling about the past about her dancing career when she joins a dance troop and thus says that I got a front row seat to the history.

She was close to whatever the history was and was in a good position to see everything.

Is that an idiom?
