"Is it correct?" is too general. You tell your reader a little more about what you're asking about by "pointing" at it. "Is that [thing I just said] correct?" does so. My re-ordered version does the same thing. It says "Is this [thing I'm about to say] correct?"Why can't I use "it"? I finally found an opportunity to ask about this question!
