image vs imagine both as verbs. What's the difference?

If you mean to picture things in your mind, use "imagine." "Image" strikes me as an odd choice of verbs. I would say it is not common at all to use "image" as a verb.
 
"Image" is very a common verb when used with machines that form pictures.

"... MRI systems to enable us to image brain structure ... " - source

Yes, I agree that there are technical uses of the word. But you wouldn't confuse that use with "imagine."
