What is the difference between "to me" and "for me".

1) You are equally important to me.
2) You are equally important for me.

Before posting my question here, I tried to search the difference between the above two sentences in goggle. I got different type of explanations. I am getting confused that out of those explanations which one to follow.

I have understood that 'to me' is used for personal opinion and 'for me' for benefits.

Please guide.

That's more or less the case.

You're important to me - You mean a lot to me. I have a lot of feeling for you.

You're important for me - This is unusual. It sounds as if you plan to use the other person for something.

A more common use of "important for" is something like "It's important for you to eat well and relax".
