in/into the future

One day, perhaps far in/into the future, you'll regret what you've done.

What's the difference between in and into the future?

Where did you find that sentence? I would not use either in the above. I might use "in the distant future" instead.

I think 'in' is OK. I wouldn't use 'into'.
