I agree with you about the plural in the case of getting lost in the mountains, like said in post #9.

In my case - and many others here, I guess - it is a very interesting problem about moving between languages.

There is no need for more explanation.

Nevetheless, I thought that the preposition "on" should be used in the case of specific mountains. Or I read it here and there.

Obviously, you fly over the mountains, but I am sure that I have read expressions as "flying on the mountains" many times.

Yes, you can hike on Tumbledown Mountain.

No, you cannot hike in Tumbledown Mountain.

Yes, you can hike in the Smokey Mountains.

No, you cannot hike on the Smokey Mountains.

Yes, you can get lost on a mountain.

No, you cannot get lost in a mountain. (You can get lost in a cave!)

Yes, you can get lost in the mountains.

No, you cannot fly on the mountains.

A mountain is a geographic feature.

Yes, it is, Jose, but that doesn't matter.

The poster got everything right. The other comments here are also correct. Try not to confuse people who ask good questions. That doesn't help them.

Thanks!

You must be joking.

I see that you are just another member of the forum, since two months, while I am here since 2006.

You are nobody to moderate my posts or tell me what to do here.

For your information, Tarheel was one of the original members of this forum. He had a problem with his sign-in information and had to change his screen name. But I assure you he was here long before you showed up.

P.S. We came through a mountain on our way here. (We drove through a tunnel. It was way cool.)

("Here" is Charlotte, North Carolina. We arrived in 2004. The rest, as they say, is history. ;-))

:)

What about this part of the song "Up Where We Belong": "...Where eagles fly, on a mountain high...". What does it mean?

The lyrics are ...

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry
On a mountain high.

If the eagles were flying, they would probably be over a mountain, but they cry and apparently they cry on a mountain which is where the singer hopes to be lifted up to.

Not that this makes a great deal of sense, other than being correct. :-?

Tarheel told me not to post more in this thread. Just a mention to my mistake (sorry). I was mislead by sites like these:

https://community.musixmatch.com/lyrics/Blake-4/Up-Where-We-Belong#
http://www.valentine.dk/sangtekster/upwhere.html
http://www.lyricsbox.com/celine-dion-lyrics-up-where-we-belong-bl9qnrz.html
http://www.songtexte.com/songtext/blake/up-where-we-belong-73ffda21.html
(and others)

It must have been one of those sites where I read it first time, for I have always remembered it as "flying on".

Sorry once again.

My apologies. I thought all your questions had been answered which was why I said what I said. You are right that I am not a moderator (but I might get to be one again if I behave myself).
