I am talking about fears that restrict people and prevent them from enjoying their life and making it more interesting. Does it sound idiomatic?
I agree with this idea partly. I think fear of death is normal, the main thing is to be able to manage your fears so that they don't interfere with living a full life. If you are afraid to fly, if you are afraid of dying in a plane crash you will not see beautiful places in the world where it's difficult to come without a plane. If you are afraid of heights you will not see the world from a bird-eye view. On the other side fear of death -natural instinct for self-preservation.
