Dharavi's shadow economy is said to bring in 800 million euros a year. However, the future of the neighbourhood is uncertain, as it sits on valuable property -- located right in the city centre. With the support of local authorities, real estate magnate Babulal Varma is tearing down slums to build luxury housing for the upper classes. Will Dharavi survive?

I noticed the use of “valuable property” - Does either “the valuable property” or “valuable properties” work here as well?

The phrase "it sits on valuable property" refers to the neighborhood. It's property that's much sought after because of its location. People are willing to pay more than average to buy property there. Also, rents are likely to be higher.

The phrase "it sits on valued property" refers to the neighborhood.

Do you mean valuable or valued? From the context given in post #1, it seems that property means 'land'.

Can we have a time stamp please, GoodTaste?

That was supposed to be "valuable property". Also, it pretty much says that in the same sentence, thus: "it sits on valuable property -- right next to the center".

There is a saying in the real estate business -- location, location, location.

Actually, the buildings in the neighbourhood which sit on the land are also called properties. So the sentence is talking about "properties sitting on valuable property", land being uncountable, which is awkward. I would just call it what it is - valuable/prime land.
