[Grammar] It's two years since I (have) met him.

1. It's two years since I met him. = I last met him two years ago.
2. It's two years since I have met him. = I haven't met him for two years.

Do native speakers agree with the above equations?
 
I don't like the second and cannot really see the distinction the writer wishes to make.
