keep to the subject

‘Let’s keep to the subject, shall we? Let’s not sidetrack and go rambling all over the conversational map.’ He revved up his fan a little then let it slow down again. ‘You are given orders and you obey them?’

What do you think of saying "stay on the subject" or "stay with the subject" in the sense of "keep to the subject"?
 
Not a teacher

I'd rather say: 'stick to the subject', 'hang to the subject'.
 
What about "stay on the subject" and "stay with the subject"?
