Which one is correct? I've read that 'learnt' is 'more British' and 'learned', more American.
 
I'm British, and I've always used learnt. I know a couple of Americans, and they prefer to use learned. I think your assumption is totally correct.

I'm British too, and I think I use both, depending on all sorts of context - ranging from the social to the phonological - e.g. /ðɪs ɪz wɒt aɪ lɜ:nt/ but /aɪ lɜ:nd ðə hɑ:d weɪ/ . It's not an issue that exercises me greatly (='I'm not that bothered either way') ;-)
