I wanted to join a friend's party about psychology. I told my friend there are eight people who wanted to join her party. But she said the place where the party was held is small so she said to me "Would you please limit the number to six?"

I wonder if it's natural. The intended meaning is "Eight people is much for my place, please make it six".

1- When you say "join a party", it sounds like you intend to become a member of a political organization. Use "go to" instead.
2- What do you mean by "a party about psychology"?
3- We don't use "much" for countable entities (including people).
4- A native speaker is more likely to say something like "I don't think there'd be room (enough) for more than six (people)".

It was a party about the topic of psychology, a group of people sitting together talking about things about psychology. Usually there's a licensed psychologist.

I appreciate your help, teechar.

Then "party" is wrong. Try perhaps "bull session" instead.

I appreciate your help, teechar and Piscean.

I was mislead by the Chinese translation of it. They used "party" and the Chinese version of "Party". In China, many people think people with mental problem as crazy people. I think the organizer wanted to soften the tone of it. Anyway, I'll write down those terms for future reference.

I wouldn't use 'bull session'. That's completely new to me and I don't think many BE speakers would understand it.
