I am a bit confused about this word "listed". I have seen it used in both ways:

This document is listed on our List of Equipment.

This document is listed in our List of Equipment.

Which is correct ....on or in ? or both of them are correct

I would say that both are used. (I think I would say it is on the list.)

***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Good afternoon.

(1) I, too, agree that both prepositions are used here in the United States.

(2) I, too, prefer "on."

(a) For example:

I am very sorry, but I cannot let you enter. Your name is not ON the

guest list.

(3) If you ever have to use the word in a sentence, and you are not

comfortable with this situation, you could always recast your sentence:

Our List of Equipment includes/ contains/ lists this document.

Have a nice day!

I agree, though I would also normally use "on the list".

However, I did think of an example where I might use both:

I wrote all the names on a piece of paper, then I put the names in a list, alphabetically. I was amazed to find I had 205 names on the list.

Is it necessary to say listed? This document is on/in our List of Equipment.
