1.Long-term exposure to light pollution increases the incidence of cancer.
2.Long-term exposure to light pollution increases incidences of cancer

Which of 1 and 2 is correct? If it is 2, why is that?
 
Incidence is the rate or frequency of something happening. It could be singular if you are talking about a single locality, or a summation of localities; or plural if you are talking about more than one locality.

Or different cancers.
 
You'd probably say different incidences of skin and brain cancer.
