I have come across some sentences where 'would' is used in a 'general' way, perhaps pointing to choice and/or habitual practice, e.g.,

(1) Many actors would use a green screen for stunts, but not Tom Cruise.
(2) In Britain, it is called a lift, but Americans would typically call it an elevator.

So I deduced that for such 'general' sentences would is used. But then the same person used will for other general sentences like:

(3) You will hear this commonly when people feel hopeless or defeated about a situation.
(4) A lot of times you will hear it about pregnant women. It makes their skin look more healthy when they are pregnant.

Are these "will"s and "would"s interchangeable?

I'm not sure where to start. Let me ask you two questions:

a) Why do you think 'would' in (1) and (2) is used in a general way?

b) Where did you get these four example sentences from?
