Is the following sentence correct and natural?

We might buy a new house for investment if the price drop down.

No but the meaning is clear.

I would probably say "We might buy a new house as an investment if the prices go down."

In BeE we would normally say that prices "drop" or "go down".

Why do you use "as an"? Why don't I use "for"?

We use "as an" to express its [intended] purpose or function.

I am buying this house as an investment.
I will buy a car as a present for my friend.
He had to use his tennis racquet as a shovel.
In some countries, people still have to use a bucket as a toilet.

I guess kicking the cat is (marginally) better than kicking the bucket in the middle of the night.
