Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits, funny quote by Mark Twain.

I'm not familiar with the position of the word so in the sentence above. Does it mean the same as Nothing needs so much reforming as other people's habits?

It would be better as Nothing needs reforming so much as other people's habits.
