On Wednesday, she visited her mother and told her about her new job.

Hello! I'm wondering if the comma is necessary or optional here. I think it's quite formal to put the comma in, but it sounds good to me. As a matter of fact, omitting it doesn't appear incorrect as well.
Can you help me, please? What would you suggest? Thanks a lot in advance!

I'd say it's optional.

But could you tell us the sentences that come before and after this one in the passage please? Sometimes the way a passage flows makes a difference.

I see what you mean and I really thank you for your advice. The sentence is just an example. The real issue to me is if we'd better put a comma after time phrases like "on Monday", "on Tuesday" etc (when placed at the beginning of sentence), like in the following examples:

Last week, we met our new clients.
All at once, the fire broke out and spread.

I've seen both options in the Net (with or without the comma) and I can't decide if it is a matter of style or grammar. I hope it is now clearer what my thread is about. Could you telle something more?
Thanks a lot in advance once again!

Such commas were obligatory when I was at school, many years ago. I still use them, but do not consider their omission a sin.

I'd say it's a matter of context--how the sentences flow. Generally speaking, you can include or omit the comma--not a serious matter.

Thanks a lot in advance once again! Unnecessary. There is never a need to thank anyone in advance. Thank us after we help you, by adding the "Thanks" icon to any response you find helpful.
Note my corrections and comments above.

Like 5jj, I was taught to use that comma, I still use it and I teach my students to use it too.
