If I have a sentence like, say: "Peter went to Denmark, he stayed there for a week." Is it allowed to separate "Peter went to Denmark" and "He stayed there for a week" with merely a comma or is a dash or semicolon needed?

Or a period (full stop). You could also say: "Peter went to Denmark, and he stayed there for a week."

Or "Peter went to Denmark, staying for a week."

Or
Peter went to Denmark for a week.

Peter spent a week in Denmark.
