The pie chart below shows the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive. The table shows how these causes affected three regions of the world during the 1990s. summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The pie chart illustrate the main factor of why agricultural land becomes low productive and the table gives information about the affected of these causes in three regions of the world namely, North America, Europe and Oceania during the 1990s. Overall, it is clear that Europe suffered more from land degradation than others and the main causes were deforestation and over-cultivation.
The pie chart shows, over-gazing and deforestation compose collectively 65% of worldwide land degradation which constituting 35% and 30% respectively. In addition, over-cultivation accounts for slightly more than a quarter of the pie while other is in the lowest level about 7% of the land degradation.
These cause affected different regions in 1990s, with Europe having 9.8 percent of deforestation while the impact of this in North America and Oceania was less, only 0.2% and 1.7% of land affected respectively. Europe with the 23% of total land degraded was in the highest level of land degradation, also Europe suffered from over-cultivation and over grazing ( 7.7%) and (5.5%). In contrast, Oceania had 13% of total land degraded and North America had a lower proportion which was about 5% in a similar fashion, Oceania had a 0 proportion in over-cultivation.
