Are the following examples incorrect?
Can anyone explain why they are incorrect?

I feel the following answers sound awkward, but I hear these kind of answers quite a bit from ESL students.

1. My favorite food is apple.

2. My favorite food is sweets.

3. My favorite fruit is orange.

4. My favorite food is noodles.

5. My favorite dessert are sweets.

I look forward to your feedback.

Thank you!

The verb is "is". It has to agree in number and person with the preceding subject.

it is :tick:
