proper nouns and captialization

When you list skillsets say on a resume. Do software skills get capitalized?


Ex:

1.Microsoft word
2.Adobe photoshop
3.Abode illustrator

Is my capitalization treatment correct? In this case, only the company names get capitalization for the first letter because the names of the software are not really proper nouns.







But in the case of designing an ad for a product, do you treat the product name as proper noun when it goes on package?



Ex:

So if the product name is fat banana, then should the first letter of the name words be capitalized if its goes on the package?

The names of the software are proper nouns - Microsoft Word.

With product names it is usual to capitalise all part - Fat Banana.

As 5jj said, the name of the software, as with all named products, would be capitalised. This would be particularly important given that we frequently choose to miss out the name of the company. For example,

"I am proficient with Word". Everyone knows you mean Microsoft Word and these days it's not necessary to specify. That sentence would not make sense if it said "I am proficient with word".

As far as the name of products for packaging goes, just look around you. Your profile says you're in the USA so I imagine you are surrounded by packaging and advertising. Some companies might specifically choose to use lower case letters for a product name but that's more of a gimmick. Otherwise, a product name with have the first letter of each word capitalised.

Apple Mac
Microsoft Excel

I'd say that people like me who care about capitalisation are more annoyed about missing capitals than wrongly-used ones.

Take for example 'This is my Proctologist, doctor luke supbum'.

The incorrect P offends me less than the d, l and s.

If in doubt, capitalise.
