I'd disagree slightly that they're finished. Buses are not the only form of public transport so I would say that using just "buses" loses some of the meaning of the original.

It depends on what you call public transport. Here in Charlotte we have buses, light rail, and streetcars. You can say the same thing about all of them. (Some would say the streetcars are pointless and a waste of money, but that's a different subject.)

That's my point, though. If you just say "buses", you're excluding the light rail and streetcars there. Here, it would exclude trains and trams.
