Could you explain what the phrasal verb "put in" means in this sentence?

Leicester 2-0 Leeds (56 mins)
Ramsus Kristensen puts in a good ball from the right flank but Patrick Bamford can't do enough with the header. Perhaps he should've done better...


 
@Kontol I might have asked you this before (apologies if I have and have forgotten the answer). Are you actually trying to follow football matches simply by reading the tweets that go out as the match is played? I can't help but think life would be so much easier for you if you watched the match and read the tweets alongside it, as well as listening to the spoken commentary. Sometimes your questions make it sound as if you've never actually watched football being played at all!
 
If you actually watch the passages of play that all these sentences you post describe, you'll see exactly what they mean.
