Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

Let him try that game on me, and I’ll soon put paid to it.

put paid to something (someone) = to suddenly stop someone from being able to do what they want or hope to do; make short work of it;fix someone; settle someone’s hash;

Thank you for your efforts.

Regards,

V.

This is an idiom mainly having two applications.
Yours is one such application but its common use is to consider something closed or completed or to mark or indicate that something is no longer important or pending; as:
At last, we were able to put paid to the matter of who is to manage the accounts.
