I read the following context from a book.

Can you find a seat when I go to the toilets?

Why did the author use plural form of "toilet" ? A person may either go to the laides toilet or men toilet.

Thanks.

You will hear both singular and plural. "Toilets" suggests that the person knows that within the area they are going to, there is more than one cubicle. It might be a building outside the area where they are now or perhaps simply the Ladies or Gents in a bar or restaurant. But there is probably more than one actual toilet available to them once they pass the door marked Ladies or Gents.
