I want to say there was a light sleet. What verb should I use? Is it correct to use "come down" for sleet?

Is this okay?

A light sleet came down, coating the windshield.

It's OK, but we usually just say that it is sleeting.

There may be some regional variation on sleet. To me it's only a noun, never a verb.

I rarely talk about sleet, but I think "streamed" sounds poetic here:

A light sleet streamed down, coating the windshield.

We don't usually use sleet as a verb in my region.

I'd use it as a verb in that context.

It was sleeting lightly/slightly ...
