A sentence in an article reads:
"The problem is not so much the snow on the runways, but the ice that has formed on the planes."
What is the difference between 'snow' and 'ice' here?

Same as anywhere else.

Same as anywhere else.
And what is the difference? In our country, ice is made in factories, and sold in the form of large cube-shaped blocks. It is used in cold drinks.I am not clear about the difference between 'snow' and 'ice' in the above sentence of mine.

Snow is what comes from the clouds. Ice is water settling on the outside of the plane and freezing. Snow, similarly to ice, is frozen water. The difference betweeen them is the layout of the molecules bound together.

Moisture in the air can freeze onto the cold surface of the airplane, building up layers of ice. This severely interferes with the ability of the plane to function.

Where this is a danger, planes are coated with a de-icing solution before takeoff.

Snow is soft and can be moved. Ice is hard and when it forms a layer can make things very difficult- roads can become slippery, engines be too cold to work, pipes can busts, etc.
