Hi,

-How has your vacation gone so far(up to now/until now)?

-How is your vacation going so far(up to now/until now)?

In my humble opinion, we should use present perfect, but I would like to ask if we can utter a sentence like the second one.

Thanks.

"So far" is an adverb of time, which means now plus before now. I think the meaning is not congruous with the progressive aspect (be -ing). I would steer clear of the second sentence. In addition, I do not think you need "so far" if you use the perfect aspect (has been).

'so far' is the most likely. It's possible in both sentences, and they are both fine. 'up to now' is unlikely', and 'until now' very unlikely.

"So far" is certainly the most natural. If I bumped into someone during their holiday, I would use "How is your holiday going?" or "How has your holiday been going so far?"
