I'd like to know which is more correct in the following sentence and why the other is not answerable.

Q. He seemed ----- upset when he was questioned about his private family history.

A. very
B. so much

As far as I know, "very" seems more appropriate, but Can't explain how inapproriate it is to put "so much".

Please help me out ^^

[STRIKE]Please help me out ^^[/STRIKE] Unnecessary, and ^^ is not acceptable as an English punctuation mark.

Welcome to the forums, eClassic.:-D

'Very' is just fine. 'So much' is used in different contexts.

'He was upset — so much so that he burst into tears.'

'He was not so much upset as devastated.'

That's another appropriate use of 'so much', but whilst your thanks are appreciated, eClassic, you don't need to send them in a separate post.
