Hello. What is most suitable for the sentence below, "so/that" or "such"? I put "such" but the correct answer was "so" or "that". Why is it? Aren't they equivalent in this context?

It is by no means and exaggeration to say that hardly any other theories have had **** great an influence on
subsequent thought.

"So" is correct. One could also use "such a great influence". The sixth word should be "an" instead of "and".
 
Thank you Mike. So, in other cases, if I want to use "such", that means I cannot use it in this fashion: "such great a something"?
