I am interested to know whether it is possible to use the infinitive after as in this sentence:

1) I have never conceived (regarded) him as to have a job.

(which means: I have never conceived (regarded) him as having a job.)

It doesn't work for me.

I find that use of "conceived" odd too but certainly neither of those sentences works.

I have never thought of him as having a job.
I have never conceived of his having a job.
I cannot conceive of his ever having a job.

'I have never envisaged him having a job.'
Does it work?
