Is there any difference between "some others" and "some other ones" when they are used to refer to a subset of members within a larger group? For instance, should I say "X an Y were not the only people in the garden. There were some others" or "... There were some other ones"?
I guess "some others" only refers to people, while "some other ones" refers to things and/or objects. Am I right?

No. It's rarely necessary to include 'ones' at all.

None of these bras fit me properly. Please bring me some others to try on.
As for comedy shows, Carole Singer enjoys
The Simpsons, Friends, Seinfeld and some others as well.
Rhoda' Dendron's favourite flowers are tulips, daffodils, crocuses, and some others whose name I've forgotten.

I wanted to give Rover two upvotes, but sadly I could only give him one.
