I looked up the word 'splice' (verb) in a dictionary and saw a link next to it to WATER. But in the definition of the verb there was no mentioning of water. So I can't understand how the two words are related. :-?

The only thing I can think of is it applying to nautical ropes.

Here are the words from the topic water: http://www.ldoceonline.com/Water-topic/

I think it's just something an algorithm has generated from one of the nautical terms. It isn't a very useful connection to be honest, but algorithms can generate both good and poor connections in cases like this.

I know nothing at all about sailing but for some reason, I immediately thought of the phrase "Splice the mainbrace!" I realised that I had no idea what it meant but here's what it says on Wikipedia.

That's interesting.)
