Dear all,

What is the meaning of "stuck in a western on crack" in:

{OUR ROOM WAS LIKE WE WERE STUCK IN A WESTERN ON CRACK.}

It was said by a couple who were not satisfied with their hotel room. The theme of the room was about horses.

Thanks.

Is there more context? Western can be a movie genre or it could refer to a hotel chain.

I think this quote is funny.

A "Western" is a type of movie with cowboys and horses.
"Crack" is a type of illegal drug.

Imagine if you made a Western movie with all the horses and actors, as well as the director and writer, doing illegal drugs. It wouldn't be a pretty sight.

(My brother-in-law once got a room with an alleged Shinto theme and looked like a ninja movie on crack.)

I'm sorry but I'm laughing out loud here. :-D That is absolutely hysterical!

Anyway, crack is uncountable. You can't make a plural from it. Same as cocaine. (crack = cocaine)

You kindly mean "a cowboy movie" about drugs?

Thanks a lot.

I knwo the meaning. It's "using drugs" but I can't get the meaning of the whole expression.

It doesn't mean merely "using drugs". It's an idiom. Did you actually read the definitions at the webpages I linked?

Perhaps the decoration was so bad, so bizarre or over-done overwhelming the senses (this would be the reference to on crack) or whoever decorated the place may have been on crack and therefore the room looks the way it does! (But I think in this case it is the first of my two examples.)

Not a teacher.
:)

(Just a crack-head! I'm kidding I'm kidding!)

My God! No!! The cowboy movie is not about drugs!

Okay. Pretend you get to decorate a room. Pretend you like Westerns, movies with cowboys and horses. You decide to decorate using horses.

Unfortunately, you are a very bad decorator. What you do with the room is not a nice and tasteful tribute to horses. It's horrible. It is so horrible that the people who see the room wonder if you were under the influence of illegal drugs when you did it.

Congratulations. You have now created a room that looks like a Western on crack.

So it may be simply like a "distorted version of a horse-themed room"??? Is that what you mean?

Yes, that's a very polite way to say it. "Congratulations. You have now created something that looks like a distorted version of a horse-themed room.";-):)

There don't have to be any horses.

Imagine a room decorated in Western-style.

Here are some examples:

Now the room the speaker is in is SO UNBELIEVABLY HIDEOUS that the person who thought it was a good idea to decorate it like that must have been on crack.

This is explained in the links I posted before:

When someone says something that is either unbelievable or utterly foolish and stupid.

Used to describe something stupid, messed up or to express frustration with something

Those are indeed hideous.
