I want to talk about the acting of actors in a movie. Should I use "performances" or "performance" Which one is correct?

1. The cast's performance was top notch.

2. the cast's performances were impressive.

I would use "performance". They acted in one film.

I, being British, would use 'performances'. We very often use group nouns(such as 'cast) as plurals.
