Hi,

I have found the following sentence in this article :https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/09/ukraine-victory-russia-putin/671405/

The liberation of Russian-occupied territory might bring down Vladimir Putin.

I would like to know, why word "territory" used in the sentence above has been used without any article.
I am confused because I can see in a dictionary, that "territory" can be both: countable and uncountable, and also have plural form "territories"

In this context territory is uncountable and therefore takes no article. The countable use tends to refer to overseas political possessions. Both the USA and the UK have overseas territories. For example, each of them governs some of the Virgin Islands.
