Hello.

I'm trying to say that a city is a reflection of what is going inside the hearts and minds of its inhabitants.

How well does this sentence work?

This city is the embodiment of what's going within its inhabitants. It's restless, it's confused, it's scared, it's angry, it's rotten.

Also, what other words instead of embodiment can I use?

How can I make it better? Please let me know how you would express that.

I can't think of a better word.

It's fine.

And this is an odd coincidence. This morning I heard a review of new science fiction novel about cities that behave like people. (No, I don't remember the title.)

It's everything the people are.

I like it. Does this work?

This city is everything its people are: It's restless, it's confused, it's scared, it's angry, it's rotten.

The city is a microcosm/encapsulation of the people.

As far as I can tell, emodiment is not an English word. Certainly it does not appear in the Corpus of Contemporary American English.

If we are talking about embodiment please amend your thread title alpacinoutd.

Is this correct and natural? Can a city be a microcosm of its people?

Re: the city is the emodiment of what goes on

No. A microcosm, by definition, is very small, while a city is large.
