Emily: Just the same, three years is a long time. Maybe letters from Grover's Corners wouldn't be so interesting after a while. Grover's Corners isn't a very important place when you think of all New Hampshire; but i think it's a very nice town

Why is would used here? It sounds like future in the past but the point of view isn't from the point in the past. It puzzles me..

Logically, George's line would use the future aspect: "The day won't come when I won't want to know ...". However, I think he's posing it as a sort of impossibility, so it's something that would never happen.
