What does the late mean here?

Harold Norton, son of Mr Charles Norton of 26 Pine Close, Farley, and the late Mrs Elsie Norton to Mary Elizabeth Sutcliffe, daughter of the late Mr Ernest and Mrs fean Sutcliffe, of 119 Oak Avenue, Earley, at St.Andrew's Church.
(From a textbook, an advertisement of marriage)

I have it on good authority she's not dead, she's merely pining for the fjords.

If you're not baffled enough by the last two posts, you can complete your confusion by watching the full (wonderful) Monty Python sketch HERE.

Some of my favorites:

pushing up daises
examining radishes/carrots/grass from below
picking turnips with a ladder
renting/bought a pinewood condo
six feet under
taking a dirt nap
liquidated
in the fertilizer business now
breathless
room temperature
kicked the bucket

Some of my favorites:

room temperature

Where I live the room temperature was sometimes about 38 C (=100,4 F) this summer. ;-)
