can you please advise me about a meaning of this expression: "(He is fifth and) the next to come"?

Is is a book about buddhism and I need a precise understanding in order to translate it into the Czech language as well as possible.

The whole sentence says: "The fifth out of the one thousand Buddhas of this fortunate age and the next to come."
 
Unless the reader is a Buddhist it is unlikely that he or she will understand what is meant by that. Therefore, additional context is needed.
