Shall I say the sea is very wavy if I want to describe the wave of the sea go up and down sharply ?

Is the structure of the above sentence correct?

The structure is fine but the collocation isn't a natural one. I think more common collocations for the sea are choppy or rough. You could also say, "The sea was angry that day."

Hmmm... I guess it always seemed a little redundant to me, like the cloudy clouds or the bouncy trampoline. I guess a wavy sea could describe a sea with a lot of waves that aren't dangerous or threatening.

Anyway, I conducted a highly scientific experiment and I think the results speak for themselves (that people just copy whatever they see on TV). From googlefight.com:

choppy sea: 99,500 results
wavy sea: 266,000 results
rough sea: 510,000 results
angry sea: 1,200,000 results
