And then we were out of the church and in the parking lot, the spring air just on the cold side of perfect, the late-afternoon light heavenly in its hurtfulness.

Hi, I’m Lena.
I’m reading a novel called ‘The Fault in Our stars’ and I can’t understand this sentence.

Why isn’t there be-verb in “ the spring air just on the cold side of perfect, the late-afternoon light heavenly in its hurtfulness.”?

Thank you.
