[Grammar] the superlative degree

Would anyone help me explain the question?
I'm confused by the use of the superlative degree as following sentences. They are the superlative degree. However, in what condition can it be omitted the definite article 'the'? Which of the following sentence is acceptable? Please give me more examples.

1. The person I love the most is my grandmother.
2. The person I love most is my grandmother.
 
I see no difference.
