The attachment excerpted from the book "Reading Inside 2".
According to the context what is the answer of below question?! and why?!
The top layer of the mantle is liquid. ( true / false)

NortT is right.

According to the extract, the mantle is a layer of molten rock. Therefore every part of the mantle is composed of molten rock. The planet's crust is on top of the mantle, it isn't the top (upper) part of the mantle.

nininaz, I googled a little about the earth's mantle. I think the right answer depends on which kind of test are you working through.
The official site of Earth Observatory of Singapore (http://www.earthobservatory.sg/faq-on-earth-sciences/earth’s-mantle-made-liquid-magma) says that the mantle is solid and a liquid mantle is a misconception; however, I think that your article claims that the mantle is liquid.
