The first sentence is correct, but the second is incorrect. Am I right?

1. There is a boy and two girls playing under the big tree.

2. There are a boy and two girls playing under the big tree.
 
Neither is particularly natural. Most of us would say There's.

I wouldn't say either was incorrect.
 
I'd use "There's". If I were to opt for "There are", I would probably change the order of the people involved and say "There are two girls and a boy ...".
