1. They have watched TV for two hours. (Kangxuan English)
2. They have been watching TV for two hours. (written by me)

What's the difference in meaning between the above two sentences?
 
2 implies that they are still watchingTV whereas 1 doesn't.
 
3. It's been raining steadily since last Saturday. (Practical English Usage, by Michael Swan, 459.2)
4. It's rained steadily since last Saturday. (Practical English Usage, by Michael Swan, 459.2)

What's the difference in meaning between the above two sentences?
 
1. They have watched TV for two hours. (Kangxuan English)
2. They have been watching TV for two hours. (written by me)
What point is Kangxuan English making with #1?
