I heard this in the BBC. I was wondering why isn't it 'Timekeeping is important for me'?

There's a very slight difference in meaning (for me at least).

Timekeeping is important for me = I always like to be on time.
Timekeeping is important to me = I think punctuality is very important and I think everyone should be on time for everything.
