[Grammar] to abroad

When I say 'trip to abroad'-is this correct though 'abroad' is an adverb?
If it's ok, then how? Why adverb needs a preposition? I'll hugely appreciate your answer:up:
 
It is "trip abroad", not "trip to abroad"
